"Odos Oniron", a marvellous hotel cluster of
luxury suites-apartments is located in Splantzia, one of the
magnificent historical districts which "embraces" the
Venetian Port of Chania. During Turkish domination, the
specific placement was the so-called "maxalas", a Turkish
neighborhood, and till today many noticeable ancient monuments
are preserved, such as the Dominican Temple of Aghios
Nikolaos, (1320) which in the years of Turkish occupation,
was converted into a mosque, (The Sovereign’s Masque). The
important characteristic of the specific mosque lies in the
presence of two, instead of one, cyclical balconies in its
upper part. In 1918, The Orthodox population of Chania took
over the temple and they dedicated it to Aghios Nikolaos (St. Nikolaos).
Other equally remarkable and magnificent monuments are the
small temple of Aghios Rokkos (1630), as well as, the Temple
of Aghioi Anargiroi with hagiographies of unrestricted
cultural value, the only active Orthodox church in the city
until the 19th century.
"Odos Oniron" , is located between the
Municipal Market of Chania, the centre of commercial
activity of the town- a cross-shaped in plan building,
designed by the Mechanic Drandaki (1911) having as model
that of closed market in Marseille and the prementioned
magnificent monuments. It is composed of two distinct
Venetian historically preserved buildings, restored and
totally renovated, keeping reverence for their historical
value.
Five (5) luxury suites, 3 appartments of traditional style
and a café jazz bar, assemble the magnificent hotel cluster
"Odos Oniron".
